Even Negan's awesomeness couldn't quite drum up the usual amount excitement for me in this volume..
Which is odd because I normally love this title no matter how little action is happening on the pages, but this time around I just..eh.
I don't know. It seemed (to me) that with a cast of characters this huge something got lost this time around. Instead of focusing on one or two plot threads, Kirkman kept hopping back and forth between random characters that I didn't even know to give me snippets

Loved this latest TWD volume. Neegan's character has evolved in a fascinating way. The war with the Whisperers was excellent and yet we have an extraordinary cliffhanger for Vol 28. I think the comic book is far better than the TV show at this point - I dropped the latter after last season. And the artwork continues to be great too. Can't wait for 28!

Don't read this if you are afraid of spoilers! I don't really have anything marked in this one!
A pretty awesome entry into The Walking Dead series. Lots of action and story progression - it felt a lot longer than some of the previous volumes.
I don't want to say to much for fear of spoiling things, but the cover is pretty spoiler-ific even without my help. Because the TV show has reached the Negan storyline, he is now a pop culture icon. As you can see, he is here in all his glory!

It’s Rick’s crew vs The Whisperers, the nutters who wear zombie skin and live among the zombie herds! Rick’s guys have guns, swords, horses, and walled communities; The Whisperers have bows and arrows, knives, zombies and live in the woods. Yeah, I loves me a good one-sided fight, really puts you on the edge of your seat, that’s why the Ronda Rousey/Amanda Nunes fight was the best ever! Damn, already broke my resolution to be less sarcastic this year..
Guess who wins? Yup! The Whisperer War is

This volume was jam-packed with carnage and had an ending that promises even more. It's almost like Kirkman and co. are trying to please all the book's critics who have been saying nothing ever happens in TWD.
The only thing that currently bugs me about this book is the way the creators seem to be trying to make us like Negan. I don't mean make us think he's an awesome villain but rather make us think he's a great guy, or a kind of 'cool' anti-hero. Judging by some of the letters at the back of t

I thought this was a really good volume. I enjoyed how it had a good bit of action and drama in it and it definitely wasn't a buffer volume. It's also cool to see the characters I like kick some whisperer and zombie butt! I'm really excited to see what comes next as a few things are slowly brewing up in the story!
They also changed the artwork layout slightly. They changed it to a 16 panel grid for this arc and I recognised straight away that something was different when I started reading it. Th

Not best TWD volume ever (and still not worst), but that reference/easter egg to Sam Raimi's 'The Army of Darkness' made me laugh so much that raised my final vote 1 star XD (hide spoiler)]

Let me start by saying that my almost-2-month old napped long enough for me to finish this in one sitting. The Reading Gods answered my prayers. I say thankya.
Next let me say that I got to enjoy a big bowl of loaded peanut butter cup ice cream while reading this.
Now, let me say what I will about this volume of the Walking Dead:

THIS is what got me hooked on the Walking Dead to begin with. Great writing, action, adventure, romance, humor..OH! And zombies!! Lots and lo

A disappointing volume. The titular war was mostly inconsequential, nobody important died, and the whisperers are still around and not done with. And for such an inconsequential volume, it was extremely busy with sub-plots! This whole arc was drawn in various modifications of a 16-panel grid. As a result, we have a pretty tiring reading experience, and because Kirkman tried to juggle four or five sub-plots on every single page, that noticeably fucked up the pacing of the book. Sometimes it was r..more

As you can see by the cover, old Negan is still around.
I tell you, with this character, the game of life and death just got kicked up a notch. For those that have not caught up with the comics/graphic novels; I advise that you do so. I love this character and you will not guess the story-line on this guy. I giggled a few times, and it was ssoooo inappropriate.
Anywho, the whisper war.. more like a battle if you ask me. The communities have no idea what they are up against. Rick knows,

Even though there's this big ongoing battle throughout the book with Dwight and Michonne fighting a horde of walkers, it's all a bit meh outside of a few shining moments. Even Negan is getting old. The amount of subplots in the book are very distracting as well. The entire book feels like a build up to future events more than a war with the Whisperers. I have to say the book did end well though.

Gah!
Those cliffhangers are killing me but that is good stuff.
Give me moooooore~
It is on. The war with the Whisperers is on and will our group of survivors survive the latest installment of war with the help of the other communities?
I have been a fan of this arc with the Whisperers since the beginning as I felt like it breathed new life into this long running series. Unfortunately, I felt this collection was a little lackluster. Maybe I am just desensitized to this series by now. Our group of survivors get into a conflict with another group, they go to war, suffer casualtie

Bullet Review:
So Rick saw thousands upon thousands (even though we humans have difficulty doing just that), so therefore, there totally weren't enough zombies killed in this volume.

This volume was just so dry and dull, which made the parts I hate about Walking Dead even worse - the fact that Rick Grimes is right because Rick Grimes is right and the fact that Carl is a psychopath in training that people are too stupid (and too scared of Rick Grimes to say anything about) to recognize.
I am astound

Another strong volume- it picks up with Negan bringing home his 'trophy' to show Rick his intentions. Negan claims that Rick and the residents of Alexandria should trust him, as he has dealt a hard blow to the Whisperers, and willingly came back to face them. Beta discovers what Negan did and vows revenge. Rick tries to bring all his allies together to fight the horde of zombies that the Whisperers are hiding among, but not all the outposts are willing to send their members to join Alexandria's..more

WHISPERERS WAR IS OVER
I hated those animals, they worth than Negan or the governor
Kirkman started this volume with a shocking death of a major character and ended it with a breathtaking scene xD
I love this volume but I hated it was easy to predict but still one more star for the end :)
I Belive in Rick grimes <3 but can't deny that Negan is amazing and makes the comics more interesting.
actual rating: 4.5
this issue was jam packed with action, story progression, romance, humour and the walkers oh and trust me there are thousands of them in this one, which is kind of making me feel more nervous.
The whisperer war has officially began and both sides report huge loses during the early stages of the war. The whisperer's don't play around they got right into the war and they did some pretty crazy stuff which i have never seen before in the comic series, they were very well prepared

I have this weird love-hate relationship with this title. It goes through periods I really love and periods I really hate.
After a few volumes of upswing, this first part of 'Whisper War' left me really cold.
It took me a long time to figure out why, and I think I have it. Zombies are the least intetesting part of this title. They have no motivatitions, and in the best zombie films/fiction they should serve only to illuminate truths about humans.
I prefer issues/arcs thst focus on charac

Fucking Hell, I'm canonically older than Rick Grimes. Not as in Egg from This Life - proper Rick Grimes. Also contains heartrending scenes for fans of Lucille. Oh, and some zombies and shit, I guess.

Amazing arc. And of course the last page leaves you holding your breath for the next one.
(I did not specifically read the actual volume, but I own all 6 issues.)
Great action and story with Negano. The cast of characters here was a little too big though. It made for some confusion during reading. Lots of death, destruction, and mayhem.
The 'Whisperers' plotline continues, basically to where you would expect, with the beginning of a war. Some alliances are holding, others are faltering. Some people are lost. I like this plot better than the 'Negan' plot before it, but, unfortunately, it's going in a direction we've seen before. Still fun, and it's not over.

This was one of the better volumes in recent memory. We finally see the big battle with the Whisperers (but it's not over yet..) and we get to see more character development, particularly with Negan.
This remains one of the strongest comics being published, although it's really grown far beyond the usual horror comic. If you like the show, you should read the comic. It's a little different, but in its own way just as good. (Some may say better!)

As the title suggests, this is all-out War. Similar In some ways to previous wars in the zombie apocalypse.
Mar 29, 2017Melissa rated it liked it
Another installment of the continuing saga, I can't really say too much without giving away any plot points, but the conflict continues, and humanity's grasp to hang on to what makes us human is as tenuous as ever.
Plus there's plenty for the TV show to draw from for a few more seasons.. ;)
This gets 4 purely because of Negan..why is he so awesome? He made me feel so many emotions in this volume..I laughed, I cried, I felt the feels.

There was an excess of chatter in this one, but once the action started, it was quite a ride. It was good to get a glimpse at Negan's back story, though he's still a crazy git who's not to be trusted. I'm foreseeing a pretty bad end coming for this storyline.
There were some good spreads in this volume, but my favorite piece was an extra large panel of Maggie and Hershel after the battle at Hilltop. Fantastic.
Apr 04, 2017Chris Lemmerman rated it liked it
For a book titled 'The Whisperer War', this one feels very subdued. There are some big battles, and maybe one or two important plot developments, but most of it feels very wrote, with the aftermath promising to be more interesting than the war itself, which is peculiar.
Each page of this volume feels really dense as well, with loads and loads of panels on each so there's a lot of movement with the various side plots, but again it all kind of fails to land properly.
Maybe it's just that the threat

In the 27th volume of The Walking Dead saga, Robert Kirkman breaks the mold and reveals that people were the real monsters all along. Just kidding, people always have been and will always be the monsters … Except maybe in the next trade. Aside from a little too much talking and not enough action in the beginning, The Whisperer War raises the stakes in all the best ways.

The 6-issue Whisperer War arc, complete with the usual into-the-frying-pan ending along with some hints about what the next big conflict will be.
