I'm a guy who loves to display my games and so forth, but with the advent of digital gaming and distribution, I don't have boxes laying around that I can display. For some time I've been looking for something that allows me to display my games on my desktop in a way reminiscent of boxes on a shelf.. or say, like the DDR interface, but never found anything satisfactory. So, I improvised and did it myself.
GameBanners is a collection of simple Rainmeter buttons created in Rainpad. The banners themselves are a combination of resources found around the internet put together in Photoshop.
This was created for personal use, so I don't intend to supply a lot of support. Nonetheness, if you need any help feel free to ask here and I'll see what I can do.
Steam games in this list are set up as Steam links. Non-steam games like Guild Wars 2 link to their respective folder paths. If you would like to link to a non-Steam game through Steam, follow these instructions:
1. In your steam library, right click the game and click 'Create Desktop Shortcut.'
2. On the desktop, find the shortcut. Right click it and select 'Properties.'
3. Under 'URL,' copy the entire line starting with 'steam://' and ending in a series of numbers, which is the game's ID.
4. Right click the GameBanner you wish to change, and find the following line:
LeftMouseUpAction = !Execute ['URL HERE']
5. Replace the 'URL HERE' text with the URL you copied from the game shortcut's properties window between the quotes. Save, and exit Notepad.
6. Right click the Rainmeter skin, and click 'Refresh skin.'
7. You're done! You're also free to delete the desktop shortcut you created, if you'd like.

I can't seem to get this to work for Sims 3, in the properties sectuion here is no path and when I open the game location typing in C:GamesThe Sims™ 3 doesnt work :/ Why must EA make everything so difficult?

It's not difficult at all. In any version of Windows, find the start menu shortcut for the game and right-click on it to select properties. Then, copy the location of the game's exe file, which is probably located at 'C:Program Files (x86)Electronic ArtsThe Sims 3GameBinSims3Launcher.exe'.

You should say what you did with the downloaded file, might be wrong image path.

I am totally new to Rainmeter, and I can't understand how to make it show up on my desktop. I've downloaded and installed it, and edited the paths to the files, but the actual buttons won't show up on my desktop. Am I completely retarded or am I missing something?

right click the banner and click edit. the notepad should come up. there you can see the guts of the banner. where it says image name is the photo that shows. the image you want to change it to must be in the same folder as the notepad's .ini folder. I personally like to make a new folder under the gamebanner's folder and copy and paste a .ini from another banner. there i change the picture name and steam id.

I did exactly what you said and tried to create a banner for Papers, Please. It doesn't work. I did the exact steps and created a new folder, but it doesn't show up.

Well, god.. There's a ton I'd like, but I don't have Photoshop, nor the skills to make them THIS good..Plus, I don't know how to really make things for Rainmeter. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Mount & Blade: Warband, Tribes: Ascend, Warlock: Master of the Arcane, Final Fantasy VII, not to mention everything I have from GOG.. I'm not expecting all of these, or any really. Just a few to keep in mind if you get the itch to make more. Thank you SO much in advance! I just discovered this rainmeter!

I really love this idea, I've actually made an entire desktop based around it, if you want I can upload the ones I've made myself, there are 22 so far, some better that others, some need a bit of finishing, but still, if you want..

In all simplicity? No.
BUT, you could remake the banners in a different resolution that fits you (and editing the .ini file to act accordingly).
But else. No.

Only thing I wish would be changed was the Guild Wars banner to say 'Guild Wars 2', as I have the original game as well.

Possibly silly question, but I'm new to this whole rainmeter thing: I understand how to change an existing banner to another game, but how do I implement the new game banner design? I made one for Tera, but I dont know how to add the pic as the banner. Thanks, and good job on this.

Okay. It's all about just going into the .ini file and change the 'ImageName' to the new banner (they have to be in the same folder.) then change the 'LeftMouseUpAction' to either 'LeftMouseUpAction = !Execute ['steam://rungameid/**STEAM GAME ID**']' or LeftMouseUpAction = !Execute ['C:Program Files (x86)THIS IS A GAMGEGAME.EXE']

If you intend on uploading them you should probably change the Author too.

Thanks a bunch, I figured out how to edit the pic and path. Dumb Question No.2: How do I get the game I want in its own separate folder? I had to use Portal 2's folder contents to make the path I wanted. I tried to make a new folder with the game within the Game Banner folder, but it wont show up on the rainmeter skin options when I try to load it. Thanks again, I'll use other steam game links meantime.
